Show Rules and Conditions of Entry
(must be read in conjuction with a current schedule)

The Show will be conducted in accordance with the rules and standards contained in the Royal Horticultural Society’s HORTICULTURAL SHOW HANDBOOK, except where, under the schedule, they obviously do not apply.
1. Where the total of entry fees for any one exhibitor amounts to £3.00 or more, that exhibitor will be entitled to one free ticket of admission to the Show Ground on the date of the Show.
2. An exhibitor’s card must be placed face downwards with each exhibit after staging and not removed from the exhibit. Every care will be taken of the exhibits, but the Committee will not be held responsible for loss or damage.

An exhibitor may make two entries in one class. Points awarded to both entries will count towards the section cup. Except in classes B, D and E only the highest money prize of the two entries will be paid. Two people may exhibit produce from the same garden in any class but they may only make one entry each in such class. The Committee reserves the right to refuse entry.
4. In Sections B, D and E, more than one money prize may be won in a class – all prize money will count towards the total for the Banksian Medal.
5. The marquee will be open for staging at 8.00 a.m. on the day of the Show and staging must be completed by 11 a.m. Exhibits must not be removed before 4.30 pm.
6. Collections of vegetables are to be staged on a space of 1m x 1m.
7. All exhibits must be grown in the exhibitor’s garden or allotment up to and including Section E. All other exhibits must be the work of the exhibitor and not previously shown in the Society’s Shows.
8. The Committee reserves the right to inspect any exhibitor’s garden or allotment.
9. Exhibitors must provide their own dishes and bowls.
10. Judging will begin at 11 a.m. The decision of the judges shall be final.
11. The judges may withhold prizes where they consider that the entries do not merit awards.
12. No person other than those appointed by the Committee may be in the marquee when judging is taking place.
13. Points will be awarded as follows: 1st – 3 points; 2nd – 2 points; 3rd – 1 point except for collections of vegetables, where points awarded will be 1st – 6 points; 2nd – 4 points; and 3rd – 2 points.
14. All Challenge Cups are perpetual and cannot be won outright, but must be competed for each year. The holders are responsible for the safe keeping of the cups and must return them in good order not later than the Wednesday prior to the Show.
15. An announcement during the afternoon will be made regarding distribution of prizes.
16 . A “novice” in Section A means a person who has not won three first prizes in this section in one year at a previous Cholsey Show. In Sections F and M a “novice” means a person who has not won two or more first prizes in the respective section at a previous Cholsey Show.
17. Notice of objections to any exhibitor or exhibit must be made in writing and handed to the Show Secretary not later than 3 pm on the day of the Show. It must be accompanied by a deposit of £5.00 which will be repaid if the objection is upheld.
18. In classes where vases are not provided, a “vase” means any container of which the height is greater than the diameter at the top; a “bowl” is one of which the diameter at the top is not less than the height.
19. The Committee reserves the right to settle any dispute in such a manner as it may decide and such decisions shall be final.
In order to increase the interest of the Show, exhibitors are requested to attach to their entries, where possible, a label with the name of the variety being exhibited.
NOTE: There will be a sale of exhibits after prize giving. Exhibits not removed by 5pm may be sold unless specified on the exhibit card NOT FOR AUCTION.
